Limbo™ Unique FAQs

Limbo™ FAQs

General Limbo

What is Limbo?

Limbo amplifies your social life giving you quick and easy access to more activities, people and places. Visit Company Stuff to get the whole story.

Will Limbo work on my mobile phone?

We work on the following major U.S. carriers for standard rate games: Alltel, Amp'd, Boost, Cincinnati Bell Wireless, AT&T, Dobson, Nextel, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Mobileular, Verizon Wireless, and Virgin Mobile. We're also available in Canada through Aliant Mobility, Bell Mobility, Fido, MTS Mobility, Rogers Wireless, SaskTel Mobility, TELUS Mobility, and Virgin Mobile.

The best experience for the social features on Limbo is on an iPhone.

Why do I have a Password and a Confirmation Code?

When you register you pick your own password. Before you can start, we then send a confirmation code via text message to your mobile phone. Simply enter that code the first time you log in to confirm your registration (this help us know it's you, and that you have your phone). You can change your password at anytime later, no problem. And you can adjust your messaging preferences in your profile to get all of your messages via text, email or sent to your Limbo inbox. It's totally up to you.

I received my confirmation code on my mobile phone, but it won't work. What's up with that?

Sometimes the letters look a bit confusing via text. Look out for the following oddballs:

  • Q looks like a 2
  • U looks like a V
  • V looks like a U
If you're still having trouble, please just ask us for help.

How do I opt-out of receiving Limbo messages?

You can opt out of receiving Limbo messages one of three ways:
1) From your mobile phone, text STOP followed by the name of the service. Here are some examples:

  • STOP UNIQUE
  • STOP JOKES
You can also text STOP ALL to opt out of receiving all Limbo messages.

2) You can use our online form to contact us and we'll opt you out within 1 business day:

3) Use our automated opt out system by calling from the mobile phone that is getting the messages:
If you want to manage or stop getting text messages and alerts from Limbo, you can call the below number. This is an automated system that detects what number you are calling from, so you will have to call from the mobile phone getting the text messages. Calling from your home phone won't work: Call 1-888-335-4953
If you would like to unsubscribe from our Limbo iPhone App, you can call the below number. This number is for the iPhone app only. It is set up to unsubscribe you from the iPhone app you downloaded from the iTunes store. Only use this number if you have downloaded the Limbo app from the Apple App Store: Call 1-866-640-7790

What, Who and Where

What's the difference between Faves, Friend, Contact and Members?

These are the different groups you can put your personal contacts into. They are they way we think about the people we know. You can set your location visibility for each of these groups. For instance, you may let your Faves and Friends know where you are, but not your Contacts or Members.

Faves are your closest buddies, your family, your BFF and such Friends are people you like to hang out with Contacts are other people in your social network Members are everyone else that is signed up for Limbo

How do I find my people? How do I get my friends on here?

People that you are already connected with through Limbo will automatically be part of your Contacts list. You can move them into your Friends or Faves, giving them more access to your location and activity.

With your iPhone, you can import your Address Book. The people in your Address Book will default to a Contact until you move them to another category.

What if I have no friends?

You should get out more often. Or, you could connect to the web and search for new friends in the list of Members. Members are everyone who is in Limbo, but not yet your Contact, Friend or Fave.

How do I move someone to a Contact, to a Friend, to a Fave

On the web click the Who tab and then the Manage Contacts button. From there you can click and drag people into other groups.

On the iPhone, go to your "Profile", then your "People Manager". From there you can click and drag contacts into other groups.

How do you add someone to your group?

You can add one of your Faves, Friends or Contacts by going to Shout, finding your group and clicking the "+" sign.

Can someone add themselves to my group?

Yes, someone can add themselves to your group as well. One of the people in your group will have to accept the new person in order for them to participate in the group.

Can you kick a friend out of your group?

Nope. As annoying as they may be, they are in your group so try to play nice. You can always be sneaky and start a new group without them in it.

Why do I set my activity?

You can set your activity, the location and Start/End date. This allows your network to find you and join you in whatever you are doing. For example, you can set your activity as Drinking, at Steelhead Brewery in Burlingame, from 5 PM to 8 PM.

How do I become part of a group that is doing something I want to do?

You simply find that group on the "What" Tab and join. One person from the group needs to accept you, and then you are in.

Do I automatically leave my other groups when I set my activity?

Yes, if you set a new activity for yourself you will leave the group you are currently in.

What happens when I ask "? are you"

The person you are asking gets a text message. When they reply you can carry on the conversation as your own Shout session.

What if I can't find my activity?

There may be some things you are into that we don't have on the list yet. Give us feedback and let us know about them.

What if I can't find my location?

Limbo captures every place on the map. If it has an address, you'll be able to find it. If you find yourself somewhere that doesn't have an address, just set your city. You can communicate where you are by Shouting with other people.

What are the text commands I can use from all mobile phones?

You can manage your Limbo activities by texting the following keywords to 41414.

  • WHAT friend's name for activity status
  • WHAT activity name to set activity
  • JOIN friend's name to join a friend in an activity
  • WHO friend's name for member profile
  • VISIBILITY to manage visibility
  • SHOUT friend's name, faves to chat
  • ADD to add a friend to a group shout
  • LEAVE to leave a group shout

Shouts

What are Shouts?

Shouting is how you communicate with the people you know. Think IM for your phone. Shouting allows multiple people to communicate in one messaging thread using SMS, mobile web, web or iPhone.

How do I Shout with someone?

Go to the "Who" tab and click on their picture. From here you can Call or Send a Message. If you Send a Message, your contact will get a text message on their iPhone. They can reply and your conversation will stay as a Shout session between the two of you.

Your friend will need to be signed up with Limbo to in order to Shout with you.

How do I Shout with a group?

Go to the "What" tab and find a group you would like to join. Once someone in that group has accepted you, you can message back and forth with that group. This group chat will be saved in your Shouts.

How long are my Shouts saved?

Your Shouts are saved for 30 days.

Privacy

How does Limbo know where I am?

Magic. Cell phone towers help too. When you click "Find Me" we use cell phone towers to triangulate your position. This helps us give you relevant information about your area and the people nearby.

Can everyone see what and where I am at?

It's up to you. You are able to set whether or not your Faves, Friends, Contacts and Members will be able to see your location. You set who can see your activities and who can't. Select Profile, then Settings. Here you can set your location visibility based for Faves, Friends, Contacts and Members.

How do I keep people from contacting me?

When you set your activity, you can turn on the Do Not Disturb. This will keep everyone away until you want to be contacted. Once you are ready, you can turn of the Do Not Disturb.

What do I do if someone is bothering me?

If some meanie won’t leave you alone, Block them. You can block members by going to Limbo.com, clicking on the member and pressing “Block. This will keep that person from being able to reach you ever again.

Does this cost anything?

No. Standard text messaging rates will apply from your carrier, but Limbo provides all this for free. Check with your carrier to see what type of text messaging plan you have.

LIMBO UNIQUE FAQ

Why doesn't everyone pick 1?

Lots of people do! So 1 is very rarely - if ever - unique. The winning pick (or number) needs to be both low AND unique, meaning only one person can pick that amount. Take a look at this example.

What does it mean to have the "lowest unique"?

The "lowest unique" is lowest number that no other person has picked at the end of the game. If you have the lowest unique at the end of the game, you win! Totally confused? It's cool. Relax, and take a look at this example.

What if my pick is unique, but later someone picks the same amount as me?

You get bumped! Part of the fun of Limbo Unique is trying to figure out who has the lowest unique so you can then "bump" him or her out by picking the same number. We'll always let you know you when someone has "bumped" you out of a unique number by sending you a text or an email, based on your preference. Click here to update your profile.

Do I get charged for Limbo text messages?

No. Limbo does not charge you for text messages. Limbo alerts and other messages are also free in that Limbo doesn't charge your phone. Keep in mind that standard text-messaging rates from your carrier do apply. Check with your carrier to understand your individual plan. Some plans include free text messaging, or offer an upgraded text-messaging package. If yours doesn't, you're likely paying your carrier between 4 and 15 cents per message sent and received. Click here to find your carrier's website to get more info. Or, update your profile to get tips sent to your email or Limbo inbox.

What number should I pick?

It's up to you! Just remember: You're trying to pick the lowest amount you think no one else will pick – the lowest unique. We'll tell you, after each pick, how you did.

What if I pick the same amount twice?

Silly wabbit! Seriously…That's cool. Everybody makes mistakes now and then. We'll tell you, and it won't count against your daily or your total play cap.

How many picks can I place?

Each Limbo Unique game has a maximum number of picks, or plays, you can place each day. It typically ranges from 10 to 30 picks. And some Limbo Unique games cap your picks for the entire game, which increases the difficulty. For specifics, check the rules page for the Limbo Unique game you're playing. And use your picks wisely, grasshopper.

How many unique picks can I have at one time?

You can have as many unique picks as you can find. The key, however, is to find and retain the lowest unique number.

Are there any rules to follow?

Yes. We've created some rules to keep the game fair and fun for everyone. For instance, you have to play alone, and you cannot discuss your picks with other people (discussing picks with pets is cool, though). You can only play on one account. And once you're a winner, you - and immediate family members and anyone living at your address - must wait for 120 days (or whatever is posted in the rules for each game) before you/they can win again. For the complete list, see the official rules for each game.

How much does Limbo Unique cost to play?

Most games are free, while a very small number charge a small fee (usually 99 cents) for each pick. Check out the rules for the specific game you're playing to find out if there's a fee. We always clearly note any additional charges, 'cause hidden fees suck. If you're playing via text messaging, we'll ask you to accept the fees before charging you anything so that it's super-obvious. And, of course, there's always a "free method of entry."

If you're playing on your mobile phone, keep in mind that standard text-messaging rates from your carrier do apply, so you do, of course, pay the cost of sending and receiving text messages based on your mobile phone service plan. Most plans charge between 4 and 15 cents. Check out your plan to determine what you're paying. And consider upgrading to an unlimited text plan if you're playing a lot. (We don't make any money from the texts you send or receive, so this isn't a sales pitch. It's just a suggestion, 'cause we hope you love the game and play a lot.) Click here to find your carrier's website to get more info.

If I play online, am I charged for text messages from my carrier?

When you first sign up, you'll need to get one text message on your mobile phone to get your password (standard text rates will apply). After that, just set your profile to get your tips via email, instead of text, and it will be totally free to play online.

LIMBO FAQ

What's Loot?
Think of it this way: With Limbo, it pays to have fun...literally. Loot is the currency used in Limbo. Members can earn and redeem Loot for cool stuff.

How do I earn Loot?
Each time you play via text-message or mobile-internet on your mobile phone, we give you Loot. You can then redeem this Loot for cool stuff. The more you play, the more Loot you get...and the better your options. (FYI: You won't earn Loot for playing online or with an old-school landline phone.)

How do I win Loot?
We're very generous. Sometimes you'll win Loot while you're playing whether it's online, on your mobile, and even through your landline.

Does Loot have cash value?
Nope. But you can use your Loot to get cool stuff, or you can give it to our featured charities. For more details, please see the terms and conditions for Loot.

Will my Loot expire?
Yes. Loot expires in one year.

Have I won?
When a Limbo Unique game ends, we call the person with the lowest unique number…to celebrate, of course. Soon after, the winner is announced on our website. To see if you're winning at any time during a game, check "My Uniques" on the website at any time, or text the keyword for the specific Limbo Unique game - followed by a space and the word STATUS - to 41414.

Example: HDTV STATUS

What about shipping costs for the prizes I win?
If you're kind enough to send us your picture (so we can show everyone both you and your winnings), we'll graciously foot the bill for shipping. If you'd prefer to remain anonymous, the shipping costs are the standard UPS costs for the weight of your package. For the bigger items, we'll talk.

Do I have to pay taxes on the items I win?
Yes. That's between you and the IRS.

Do I have to prove my age?
Yes. If you win, we'll ask you to prove your age, because you have to be 13 years of age or older to play most games. (Sometimes it takes a whole 18 years of age to play.) Check the specific rules for the game you're playing to be sure that you're eligible.

Do I have to get messages from Limbo via text?
You have tons of options. You can get your tips sent to you via text message OR email OR both text message and email. And, all of your messages are stored online at Limbo in your Limbo inbox. Your inbox lives on www.limbo.com and houses every message that we send to you, including play responses, tips, new game info. (Beware that if you choose to only use your Limbo inbox you could forget to play or miss useful game notices. We wouldn't want that to happen now would we?)

How do I opt-out of receiving Limbo messages?
Since you're already online, just update your profile to stop getting messages via text or email.

From your mobile phone, text STOP followed by the name of the service. Here are some examples:

STOP UNIQUE
STOP JOKES
STOP GRAB
From your mobile phone, text STOP ALL to opt out of receiving all Limbo messages.

Having issues? Contact us. We're here to help you!

Dude looks like a lady?

Why can't I play from Quebec?
Long story short...We don't have an office or an HQ in Quebec. For that reason, we can't offer Limbo games to people who live there. The Quebec folks won't allow it.
